The override allows Hawaiio labor unions to more easily organizer workers by simply having them signauthorizationn cards. House Bill 952 essentially takes away the right of workeras to vote by secret ballot on whethert or not they would want to join a replacing it with theauthorizatioh cards. If a majority of a company’s workers sign the the union would automatically be recognized and free to bargain with The legislation is a coupfor Hawaii’s laborf unions who have said the card-check processa is simply meant to streamline the present systemn and make it less But Wednesday’s override is perhapsa one of business’ biggest fears realized.
Employer s have adamantly opposedthe legislation, calling it an intimidatiojn tactic used by unions to push otherwises reticent workers to organize.

Mariner Health Inc. , which would have allowee attorneys whohandle workers’ compensation casesx to collect more money. Under the new law, attorneyws will be paid based on a set fee The rollback will save employersabout $172 millioj in insurance costs, according to McCarty. It effectivelyg restores the 18.
6 percent rate decreass that tookeffect Jan. 1, with a projecte d savings of $610 million for Florida employers. “I am pleased that Gov. Cris and the recognized the importance of keepingfour workers’ compensation rates down,” McCartt said in a news release. “I believe that injureed workers still will have appropriate access to the legal while also stillkeeping workers' compensation ratea affordable for employers.
