Guilford school board OKs interim budget - Business First of Columbus:

The interim budget will allow the district to pay employee principal and interest on debt and other ordinary expensesd between July 1 and the adoptiojn of thefinal budget. All of the state’se public school districts have been hit hard by statebudget cuts. GCS receivez about 60 percent of its funding from the About 32 percent comes fromlocal sources, and the balanced from the federal government and other sources. The stat budget the district is waiting to seeprobablyh won’t offer much relief. Current proposals couldc result ina $40 million cut in state fundin for GCS, the district estimates.
Among cuts already planned are118 school-basedc positions, including 78 current employees and 40 positions that are currently vacant. More than 500 contract employeesx have been told their renewals have been delayedc because of the but district officials say most of those contracts will ultimatelyube renewed. District staff members are expected to presenf more options for futurd cuts at the next regular boarc meeting onJuly 7.
